It’s no secret I love Croatia. My first trip to Croatia is what started me on my current life path. It spawned my career-break, and to this day, holds a very, very special place in my heart.
I have spent more time in Croatia than I have in almost any other country, other than America. I can close my eyes and instantly recall the mesmerizing bluegreen of the Adriatic. I can almost taste the homemade olive oil on my tongue. I can feel that warmth in my heart that Croatia first evoked.
This photo is from my first trip, in September 2010. It was before I knew … anything.
In Zagreb’s Upper Town, there are little streets with exposed brick, colorful graffiti and narrow paths that branch out from the gorgeous cafe-lined main roads. Often short cuts to some amazing view, restaurant or museum, I found myself wandering the tiny paths only accessible to people and motor bikes. I’m pretty sure this photo was taken the moment I fell in love with Zagreb.

Oh, I love the starkness of this photo before you took off to change your entire life!
Thanks!!!! Me too
I LOVED Croatia. I went to Split/Trogir, Hvar and Dubrovnik a few years ago and have since raved about it and told everyone I know to go. I’ll have to get back there eventually and see Zagreb and Plitvice National Park. Great photo too!
Thank you! Croatia is one of my favorites. Ever. I did the coast, too and it is stunning! Zagreb, at first, was not impressive. But then, I got sucked in and was just enamored with the city. And Plitvice … oooooh!! So. Beautiful.
Croatia is very high on my list and am actually planning on visiting next year!
Croatia is by far one of my favorite places in the universe. It is (yes, this will sound super cheesy), a magical country filled with beautiful sights and beautiful people. You will really enjoy it. I do suggest not going in the summer. It is becoming a hot spot for Europeans to visit during those months and is very crowded. Your best bet to visit is just after season, when the prices drop, the water isn’t too cold and the weather is still beautiful.
i hope i can travel to Croatia too. will watch out for this series! thanks for sharing!
Croatia is magnificent. I have been there twice, and written about it both times on this site. For more info, just go to the Europe tab and click on “Croatia” in the drop down menu. Heaps of posts and pictures about one of my favorite places in the world!
Thank you for taking the time to comment!
I really would like to go to Croatia. Thanks for re-igniting the spark!
Oh, absolutely! I love Croatia!
